Website Terms of Use

Effective date: 1 May 2026  |  Last reviewed: 1 May 2026

These terms explain the rules for using The Bereavement Café website. By visiting or using thebereavementcafe.co.uk, you agree to these terms. They are written in plain English and are intended to be easy to follow. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use this website.

Who we are

This website is operated by The Bereavement Café CIC (company number 14004905), a Community Interest Company providing peer-to-peer grief support, community café spaces, Grief Recovery support, Youth Cafés and bereavement training for individuals, schools and businesses. The Bereavement Café was founded to remove the stigma around grief and create safe, welcoming spaces where people can find connection and hope after loss.

The nature of our services

The Bereavement Café provides peer-to-peer support, community connection and bereavement training. We are not a counselling service, a medical provider or a crisis intervention service. Nothing on this website constitutes professional therapeutic, medical or psychological advice. If you are concerned about your mental health or wellbeing, please speak to your GP or a qualified mental health professional.

Community Cafés

Our Community Cafés are safe, welcoming spaces for people navigating grief. By registering to attend a Café, you agree to engage with fellow attendees with compassion, respect and confidentiality. What is shared within a Café session should remain within that space.

We reserve the right to decline or withdraw a registration where we reasonably believe that an individual’s attendance may pose a risk to themselves or others, or where our community guidelines are not being respected.

Attendance at a Community Café does not create a therapeutic relationship between you and The Bereavement Café or any of its facilitators. Our Cafés are peer support spaces, not clinical settings.

Grief Recovery support

Where you engage with our Certified Grief Recovery Specialist for one-to-one or group support, separate terms will be provided at the point of engagement. These terms do not govern that relationship. All Grief Recovery support is delivered with care, professionalism and strict confidentiality.

Business and workplace training

Enquiries about our training services submitted through this website do not constitute a confirmed booking. Training arrangements are confirmed separately in writing once the scope, format, date and fee have been agreed between The Bereavement Café and the relevant organisation.

Youth Cafés and children

Children and young people

Our Youth Cafés are delivered within school environments in partnership with schools and educational settings. This website is not directed at children. Schools and educational settings wishing to enquire about Youth Café provision should contact us directly. Any involvement of children or young people in our services is arranged through the relevant school or setting, in accordance with their safeguarding policies and our own.

We never accept direct referrals from or contact with children through this website.

Safeguarding

The Bereavement Café operates a safeguarding policy at all times. Where we have a concern about the safety or welfare of an individual — including an adult at risk or a child — we may be required to share relevant information with statutory agencies, regardless of normal confidentiality principles. The safety of individuals will always take precedence.

If you have a safeguarding concern, please contact us immediately. In an emergency, always contact the police or emergency services first.

If you are in crisis

The Bereavement Café is a peer support community — we are not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact:
