Accessibility Statement
Effective date: 17 April 2026 | Last reviewed: 17 April 2026
Our commitment
We want everyone who visits thebereavementcafe.co.uk to be able to find information about our Cafés, our training, our Grief Recovery support and our Youth Cafés — regardless of disability, impairment, neurodivergence or the technology they use to browse. Given the nature of our work, we are particularly mindful that some visitors may be in a fragile or distressed state when they reach us, and we are committed to making that first contact as straightforward and low-barrier as possible.
Target: WCAG 2.1 Level AA
We are working towards meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA and are committed to making ongoing improvements to our website.
How accessible this website is
We have reviewed our website and can report the following on its current accessibility:
Known limitations
We are aware that some parts of our website may not yet fully meet accessibility standards. These currently include:
- Some images may not yet have fully descriptive alternative text
- Some areas of the site may not yet meet the required colour contrast ratios
- Some interactive elements and forms may not be fully operable by keyboard alone
- Any embedded video content may not yet include full captions
We are actively working through these improvements. If anything is preventing you from reaching us or accessing our services, please contact us directly — we will always find a way to help.
Accessing our support and services
Our services are for everyone
The Bereavement Café is built on the belief that grief support should be available to all. If you have a disability, neurodivergent need, communication difficulty or any other requirement that affects how you access our website or engage with our services — please contact us and we will do everything we can to help you participate.
Whether you are looking to join a Community Café, attend a Youth Café on behalf of a child, access Grief Recovery support, or enquire about training for your organisation, we can discuss your needs and find the right way to connect you with our services without relying solely on the website.
We can also provide information about our services and upcoming Cafés in alternative formats on request. Please allow up to 5 working days for us to respond to such requests.
If you are in crisis
The Bereavement Café provides peer support and community connection — we are not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact one of the following:
- Emergency services: 999
- Samaritans (24/7 emotional support): 116 123 or [email protected]
- Crisis text line: text SHOUT to 85258
