Lucie’s Story

In August 2022, our lives were forever changed when we lost our beloved Jemma. She was the heart of our family, the one who dreamed up our future and guided us with love and stability. Her sudden passing, just as we were about to embark on a family holiday, left us in a state of shock and heartache. Despite my attempts at CPR until the ambulance arrived, deep down, I knew we had lost her.

Jemma was everything to us—a loving wife, a devoted mother to James, Lucie, and Henry, and the source of our family’s direction and stability. Her loss felt like the crumbling of the world we knew.

During our darkest days, the Bereavement Cafe became our refuge. It was a place where we could share our grief openly, without fear of overburdening our friends or family. It was especially crucial for Lucie, as she navigated her pain while trying to keep up with school. The support we received there, particularly from Jane, who was there for us not just in group sessions but whenever we needed, was our lifeline. The cafe was our outlet, a place where we could connect with others who truly understood the loneliness and isolation that comes with losing someone you love.

In gratitude for the support that has meant so much to us, Lucie has decided to give back to the Bereavement Cafe. Lucie is undertaking a 10k walk to raise funds and awareness for this incredible place that has been our solace. This is not just a fundraiser; it’s a way to continue the support that has been a beacon of hope for us and for others facing the tumultuous journey of grief.

We invite you to join us in supporting this cause, to help keep the Bereavement Cafe’s doors open for those who, like us, find themselves lost in grief and in need of a safe space to heal.

This journey has taught us the power of community and the strength found in shared sorrow. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those walking through the shadows of unbearable loss.
